"Beyond the High Street" is an artwork based on a series of images exploring the evolving landscape of Britain’s urban spaces, shaped by migration, commerce, and historical ties. Through a series of photographs, Aisha captures the transformation of shopfronts and markets in Aldershot, a military town with deep colonial connections.
These images reveal how Britain’s former colonies are now redefining its streets, introducing vibrant traditions, languages, and aesthetics that contrast with conventional British marketplaces. While traces of British rule remain in many post-colonial nations, immigrant communities are leaving their mark in the UK, redefining urban identity. This work captures that transformation, revealing contemporary Britain’s evolving demographics and layered histories.
