'Run what you brung' and get nerdy!
MODCAF, short for Modular Café, is a community interest company established in 2018 to support and promote live electronic music performance. Based at the West End Centre in Aldershot, it serves as a hub for synthesizer enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. The organization provides a platform for individuals to meet socially, exchange ideas, collaborate, and support one another in their musical endeavors.
MODCAF hosts monthly meetings featuring live sets, technical talks, demonstrations, and collaborative jam sessions, fostering an environment where both newcomers and experienced musicians can learn and perform. The community has attracted participants from across southern England and beyond, organizing outdoor performances, mini-festivals, and larger projects. Notably, for its first anniversary, MODCAF hosted performances by artists such as MATTHS, Finlay Shakespeare of Future Sound Systems, and Hainbach, who traveled from Germany for his first UK show.
In addition to live events, MODCAF has engaged in projects like TESTCHAMBER, funded by the Arts Council of England, which resulted in the release of an album showcasing the talents within the community. The organization continues to support and develop the electronic music scene, offering regular sessions and special events at the West End Centre.
