In preparation for re-starting our Crafty Culture group after the impact of COVID-19, we are inviting locals from around Rushmoor to help create a crocheted mandala installation in and around the Princes Gardens bandstand in August to celebrate creativity and culture in the local community. Crafty Culture: Make a Mandala is a collaboration between West End Centre and local artists Barbara Touati-Evans and Gemma MacLennan.
Take part in the project by booking onto one of our free socially distanced, outdoor mandala making workshops, hosted at the Princes Gardens bandstand. Barbara and Gemma will take you through the crochet making process step-by-step and will help you to create beautiful pieces to form part of the installation.
What you need: All materials will be provided, but please bring something to sit on (chair, blanket and/or cushion) and a bottle of water as on site refreshments will not be available. We also ask that all workshop participants over the age of 11 bring a face covering.
Tutors: Barbara Touati-Evans and Gemma MacLennan
Barbara Touati-Evans is a visual artist and art practitioner whose main practice is crochet. She is interested in clashing the traditionally homely and female craft of crochet with traditionally cold and male topics such as mathematics and neuroscience, thus colliding different worlds and exploring different types of experiences for the audience.
As an art practitioner, she is interested in supporting everybody develop creatively and is keen to learn from the people she works with. Barbara believes there is something very motivating and soothing about crafting together. It makes people less lonely and it is very inspiring to see what other people are making.
Workshops: Saturday 12 June or Saturday 19 June, 1pm - 3pm
