The summer festival season is fast approaching and at the West End Centre, with the amount of fun that was enjoyed at the hugely successful Glastoshot event last year, this year is going to be bigger and bolder!
Fri 20th - Sat 21st July
Tickets for the Westival are £10 for Friday and £20 for Saturday,
£25 for weekend tickets and, for the Saturday, £5 for under-14s.
Across two days, the Westy is playing host to two stages of the finest festival bands and acoustic artists with art workshops running alongside and run by our fantastic art teachers. The turf (yes real turf!) was so successful last summer that this year both stages, plus the whole of the audience area will be grassed over so the audience and performers will be standing on real grass.
Friday is more of an evening affair and the acoustic stage will see performances by the likes of Arthur, gorgeous female-fronted, piano-led indie rock and perhaps our finest local band; Jazz, folk and classical-influenced guitarist Tristan Seume makes a triumphant return to our venue after a spectacular show in January and Gareth Pearson, an 18 year old acoustic performer who was personally invited to open for former Kink Ray Davies in New York! On our ‘main stage’, we have a wealth of talent including eccentric, sampled-peppered rock from hometown favourites Hipslinky Soulful south London quartet The Rushes who have recently inked a record deal with Island Records; bonkers indie popsters Kate Goes are also back after making a monumental impression on us as support for Misty’s Big Adventure last year.
Saturday is an all-day affair starting at midday and is for all the family! Alongside the workshops, there will be more acts and groups, including the magnificent Sleeping Dogz on the acoustic stage, playing their gloriously infectious and unhinged acoustic folk with Cajun, Celtic and Moorish influences. On the ‘main’ stage, we have two wonderful acts at the top of the bill; funk outfit and festival veterans Don Piranha and legendary folk storyteller Rory McLeod. Also on Saturday, The Deborah Bonham Band, will play their bluesy hard rock laced with earthy vocals and with influences from her late brother’s band Led Zeppelin; Comedian and satirist Hattie Hatstar, armed only with an accordion, a ukulele and a brain, brings dazzling beauty, glittery showbiz accordion, glamorous dress sense and razor sharp wit to her eclectic waltz and roll style; folk troubadour and heavily influenced by Billy Bragg, Frank Turner is an artist oozing charisma with many stories to tell on his current life on the road alongside a smattering of social commentary and humorous asides. Plus some bunch called Kilter, who once featured a certain Barney Jeavons on bass, are playing their first gig in 8 years, which is something you should watch out for!
“I am really excited about the Summer Westival” says Barney Jeavons, Centre Director. “We have got some fantastic acts and I think it is the best weatherproof festival in the world!” continues Barney.
Remember, there are plenty more guests yet to be confirmed.
